What's your business, and who are your customers?
The Wrap Life was founded in Brooklyn, NY, offering head wraps and hair accessories made with premium fabrics and vibrant designs. Our customers are women who recognize the transformative power of head wraps and hair accessories.
Tell us about yourself
I started wearing head wraps and loved how a beautiful piece of fabric had the power to transform how I felt when I stepped out into the world. I wanted to offer this same feeling to other women while making the shopping process easy and fun. Initially, I was driven by the desire to create what I wanted to see in the world while creating freedom in how I work and show up day to day. Ten years in, I'm motivated to expand our products and solve the needs of my customers as they evolve.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment is that I continue to do this work. It's the most difficult thing I've done, but I'm so proud of how much we've accomplished and how much my team cares about our work and values as a team.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
It can be difficult to focus on the bigger picture when you're caught up in the day-to-day. It takes discipline to delegate and dedicate time to strategy and growth.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Hire a great team and have a thorough understanding of what they do so you can support their efforts.
- Be honest with yourself about your limitations and where you have the opportunity to grow and learn. Even your personal limitations and challenges show up in your work.
- Know where you're going so you have a compass that guides you and your team.
