Romantic, Rebellious Creative Studio - The Whiskey Ginger
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in design services but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Loni Carr and Brett Gramse, Founders of The Whiskey Ginger, located in Bozeman, MT, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Loni Carr and Brett Gramse are the creative minds behind The Whiskey Ginger- a design brand based out of Bozeman, Montana. As a boutique design agency, we've had the opportunity to work with some serious badasses. From whiskey distillers to musicians to cannabis upstarts, we work primarily with craftsmen and women who give a damn about authenticity. We enjoy collaborating and creating visual campaigns that speak to the uniqueness of these entrepreneurs.
Tell us about yourself
True to form, Loni and Brett met over whiskey. They bonded over their creative backgrounds and, in time, learned how to utilize their unique skill sets and work together to grow a business. We're both competitive by nature, but we have a lot of respect for one another, and this pushes us to produce the best possible work.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Learning when to say no to a project if it doesn't align with our passion or best interests. We've found a bit of rebelliousness in walking away from shiny projects once we've read the fine print. Saying no has opened up opportunities we couldn't have anticipated if we were beholden to other things.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Juggling all the tasks that don't come naturally to two creative people. Administrative duties, scheduling, project management- anything that takes us away from more creative endeavors.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Make sure that you're willing to give more of yourself and your time than a typical 9-5. Creative business owners happily work 80 hours a week to avoid working 40- as long as they can do things on their own terms.
- Make a schedule and stick to it.
- Be open to pivoting.
