Human-First Business - The Vision

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Becca Daly, Co-Founder of The Vision, located in Utica, NY, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I'm the co-founder of a program called The Vision, along with my business partner in Canada, Juliana James. We felt that there was a need for a business program that focuses on what works for YOU as an individual and not just what the 'best' strategy is. We help you build your business from a place of authenticity and alignment, so whatever you create feels really good to you and attracts the people that you're meant to work with. We have an extremely supportive community of Visionaries who create a safe space to share, be vulnerable and get more comfortable being seen in your authentic truth.

Our clients feel a tug from their hearts to create something and put it out into the world. They want to connect with other humans and genuinely make a difference in the world. They reject the cookie-cutter 'strategies' and refuse to put themselves in a box in order to be successful. They value integrity, heart, and uniqueness in business and are all for the community over competition. They know they're meant for big things in the world, but they recognize that in order to get there, they need to get out of their own way. They also love to nerd out on systems like Human Design, Astrology, and the Gene Keys!

Tell us about yourself

I've worn many career hats in my adult life radio, animal welfare, PR, and marketing. I've dreamed about becoming an award-winning documentary filmmaker, operating my own animal rescue, or creating a true crime podcast. I experimented a lot in my twenties, but the one constant I witnessed in most professional environments was this: people are unfulfilled and dissatisfied. The typical way work is structured in our modern society sets us up for a whole host of mental, emotional, and physical struggles and is not supportive of our desire to live our happiest lives.

This realization hit me like a ton of bricks, and I could not unsee it or let it go. Then, I was introduced to the world of online entrepreneurship, and everything changed for me. I realized that there were so many other ways to support ourselves and our families, help others and do meaningful and fulfilling work in the world. I became obsessed with Human Design and built a business around doing chart readings and teaching others about the system. After some time doing that, I realized that my passion was in working with entrepreneurs, so I combined my branding/marketing experience with my Human Design knowledge, teamed up with my partner Jules, and the rest is history!

One of our gifts is to see the potential in other people. When we sit down with someone, we get SO excited to talk about the big-picture vision of where they could go. Our dream is to put as many people as possible in touch with their inherent genius and help them share it with the world to create the freedom and impact they desire.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Definitely creating our program, The Vision. It has NOT been an easy road. I used to be terrified of starting a group program. I would think, 'what if no one shows up?' But then I would also think, 'what if people DO show up?!'. The responsibility of that was equally (if not more terrifying). It took a LOT of inner work, perseverance, trial and error, and dedication to get The Vision to where it is today, and I'm SO proud of what we've created.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Being an entrepreneur will bring up ALL of your fears, insecurities, and doubts. It will stretch you outside your comfort zone in every way. Creating something from your heart and then being able to go, 'hey - I made this! Do you want it?' is SO vulnerable. It is a far easier path to bury your head in the sand and settle for a more safe, more comfortable situation. But the truth is that BOTH paths will bring discomfort. The safer path brings the discomfort of being unfulfilled and wondering what 'if?' The entrepreneurial path brings the discomfort of being pushed outside your comfort zone in every way - BUT the payoff is 100x better.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Take messy, imperfect action now. You will NEVER be 100% 'ready.' The more action you take, the faster you will move forward, period.
  2. Get good at acting, reviewing, and refining. Create something, put it out there, and then review how it went. Look at the data (literal numbers, feedback from others, how it felt to you). Then use what you've learned and make the necessary changes. Rinse and repeat this enough times, and it's literally inevitable that you will have a successful business.
  3. Do the inner work. Most of the time, what people think is a 'strategy' problem is actually an inner work problem. Your fears and limiting beliefs are the biggest blocks standing in your way. The sooner you get them out in the open and address them, the sooner you'll see progress.
