Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Ashley Gant, founder of The Sweet Life Cookie Company, located in West Blocton, AL.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I own a home based bakery specializing in custom decorated sugar cookies. My customer base is mostly women who are planning birthdays, weddings, showers etc. I love being able to create cookies to match the theme of any party!

Tell us about yourself

One day I found myself wanting a hobby. As a mom of 4, I never really took the time for myself or to do anything I enjoyed. I followed several cookiers on social media & thought, I’d like to try to make some cookies like that. I began practicing in July 2018. I posted my first cookies that I was proud of that following October. From that post on my personal social media, I got my first order. And from there, my hobby turned into a business as more & more people requested my cookies.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

A client ordered cookies for James Spann, our local meteorologist and local celebrity!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

As a home based business, the hardest thing for me is when to stop! I really have to be conscious about balancing my time.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

1. Just do it! If you can’t stop thinking about it, then just jump in and go for it!

2. Be excited about it!!

3. Social media is a great tool! Use it!
