What's your business, and who are your customers?

The Soulpreneur is an executive leadership development company. We help high-level leaders convert their painful past abuse into a gift of opportunities. Many of us have encountered abuse in many shapes, ways, and forms. Facing abuse can leave lingering effects on people's behavior. In many cases, people are unaware of the connection between their current behavior and their past struggle. Accordingly, they feel stuck, and the pressure starts building up. Think about controlling as a behavior, for example. Trauma or abuse will make the victims have the natural tendency to "hold and preserve" because they feel violated and their security was stolen from them. Adopting this hold and preserve mentality will show up in the leader's life on a personal level, where they have to be the controlling side of the relationship, or professionally, where they have difficulties delegating responsibilities. All those behaviors are directly related to past trauma or abuse. We help high-level leaders leverage this awareness to create opportunities for self-development and a better life.

Tell us about yourself

I'm a child abuse survivor. I authored a book (The Soul Warrior) available on Amazon, Apple iBook, Kindle, and Barnes & Noble bookstore. The book talks about how I was able to convert my childhood gang rape experiences into a gift of entrepreneurship and leadership. Because I could do that, I wanted to help others who have passed through trauma, oppression, or abuse and liberate them from all the negative thoughts those incidents bring into our lives. Those mindsets can lead to jail or even suicide. They can destroy lives, and it is not fair to live a life enduring the consequences of that. That's the most significant driver that wakes me daily to do what I'm doing now.

Aside from my leadership development company, I'm also a co-founder and CEO of 3mushrooms Telecom (a satellite communication company). In addition, I'm a partner in Grizzly Entertainment, a drone light show company. While I'm not doing any of that, I like to fly since I'm a recreational pilot. You can always find me in the kitchen cooking up a storm at home.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Even though I have received International Business Awards, those are just Awards. Accomplishment is in the doing, not in the prize. The most significant achievement in my business career is being able to revisit my trauma, change my perception about it, and find the gift and purpose to create a business that works as an extension of my life purpose, values, and principles to serve others. Among other companies that I own, The Soulpreneur is the one that honors my soul calling. It allows me to spread my message and scale it to reach more people.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest thing about being a business owner is being responsible for everything and everyone in your organization. Even the well-being of your team members' families becomes a responsibility. The owner needs to be there for everyone on his team and be responsible for their progress.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. What is your soul calling for? Entrepreneurship starts with you, not the product or the service you offer. Start with clarity about yourself and find a better reason to start a business than focusing on financial freedom.
  2. Do not start a business simply because you have a brilliant idea to generate quick money. Focus on solving a problem and be genuine about solving it for the sake of helping others, not because of the money. Otherwise, your journey will be A LOT harder than you think.
  3. Spend 90% of your time on the WHY, not the HOW. Why are you doing what you are doing and what is your impact? The why will dictate the how!! If you stay in the how you are on the wrong path.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Before you start a business, learn how to love yourself. Your business should be an extension of yourself, your values, and your principles. You need to take care of yourself and treat it well so you can continue developing your business to better serve your clients. Pay attention to your needs and honor them. Connect with your soul and keep listening to it. It will show you the way.
