What's your business, and who are your customers?
My business is called The Soulful Birth. I am a birth doula and Hypnobirth Childbirth Educator. My clients are pregnant people looking to have an inspired, empowered birth experience.
Tell us about yourself
I literally tumbled into the birth world! The first birth that I witnessed was at a gas station! A woman had a spontaneous delivery, and as I was walking into the gas station to pay, she dropped her pants in front of me and scooped her baby up as he was being born! I had never seen anything like it before (as you can imagine!). Being with pregnant people and couples during the happiest times of their lives is what motivates me to do this work. There is nothing more humbling and beautiful than not only witnessing a baby being born but also witnessing a birthing person in all of their power!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
It's been such an incredible journey to get where I am today. As a birth doula, I have witnessed and supported hundreds of birthing people over the years and taught close to a thousand couples Hypnobirthing.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
I love what I do, but there can be some challenges - I have missed numerous holidays, anniversaries, and birthdays because I've been at birth. It is hard to schedule events or get-togethers because we literally don't know when a baby will be born!
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Trust yourself and your vision! You are the only one who can do what you do the way that you do it!
- Give yourself grace. There will be challenges, but that is part of growth.
- Get yourself out there! Whether it is through social media or networking - do what you need to do to get your name and business out into the world!
