Intentional dating for Colorado singles - The Social: Modern Matchmaking
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in matchmaking but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Abby Rosenblum, matchmaker & founder of The Social: Modern Matchmaking, a matchmaking service for singles in Colorado who want to find an authentic connection.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
The Social: Modern Matchmaking is all about spreading more love into the world! We are a matchmaking service for singles in Colorado who want to find an authentic connection. We work with singles of all ages and backgrounds to introduce them to like-minded individuals through blind dates and singles events. We have a database that singles can join on a yearly subscription basis, and singles hire us as their matchmakers to search for great candidates for them and set up all their dates.
When you work with The Social: Modern Matchmaking, you also get access to all of our confidence builders, which include: dating coaches, therapists, barbers, hairstylists, astrologists, personal trainers, and even professional photoshoots! Our customers are singles who are tired of searching for love online and ready for a real in-person connection.
Tell us about yourself
I started matchmaking because of my own frustrations with dating. I was a serial dater (before I met my husband) and felt like I wasn't connecting with people who had similar goals as me. I started my business by signing up all my friends, then friends of friends, and now we're one of the top matchmakers in Colorado with a whole team behind the business.
I'm motivated each day to continue doing what I do because of the amazing feeling when someone finds their person! It's pretty cool to see the transformations that happen throughout the six-month program. I love giving others the tools to have strong, authentic, and genuine connections they otherwise wouldn't be able to have on their own.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is setting boundaries. It's something I talk about with my clients all the time when it comes to dating, but it's sometimes neglected in the business world.
As an entrepreneur, sometimes others look down on you if you don't work 100 hours a week and give up everything to make your business a success. I tried that, and it only led to burnout and exhaustion. I am so proud that I'm always making sure that I'm taking time (for myself) to rest and relax so that I can serve my clients to the utmost of my abilities. If I'm overwhelmed, then my clients aren't getting any of the benefits that they invested in by working with me and my team.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
One of the most difficult things I've realized is that sometimes your business isn't for everyone. In the beginning, I was trying to make my business work for anyone who wanted to pay me. As my business has grown, I've realized the power in turning people away who aren't the right fit. This is the advice I give to many of my friends and colleagues when they're starting a business - it's important to know who to turn away because if you take on everyone who is interested, you'll drive yourself crazy! I definitely had to learn that the hard way.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Run your business very lean, to start. Don't start racking up thousands of dollars of expenses from the beginning if you can avoid it. Start tracking your business numbers from the very beginning.
- Have a plan, but not necessarily a formal business plan. You don't have to have an MBA to start a business, but it's so helpful to have an idea of what you're looking to create and how you're going to accomplish your goals.
- Know that you can change anything and everything as much as you need! Nothing is set in stone, and if you're starting a business and you're not sure it's working one way, change it!
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
If you're looking for love and a more authentic connection, I would love to help connect you with amazing humans! Even if you're not in Colorado, I can connect you with one of my partner matchmakers in your city.
