What's your business, and who are your customers?
I own The Skin Retreat in the Heights. We are a medically directed corrective skin care studio. I also offer mentorship programs and advanced training certifications for estheticians. So we have a mix of clients that come in for services and estheticians coming for training. Our skin care clients are looking to correct skin conditions such as hyperpigmentation, acne, advancing aging, etc. My esthetician clients are looking to advance their skills and business knowledge so that they can make more money.
Tell us about yourself
I began working in aesthetics because I have the desire to help people. I love solving their skin care problems and helping them feel their best. My work with other estheticians is very rewarding. I equip them with the tools they need to take control of their career, finances, and businesses.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment is not only surviving during the pandemic but growing my business and giving other estheticians the opportunity to work with me, teaching them the ins and outs of business and esthetics.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
The hardest thing that comes with being a business owner is that it all begins and ends with you. The success or failure ultimately lands on you. It can be a lonely endeavor.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Know your numbers backward and forwards. How much does it take to keep the doors open, the lights on, and the supplies you need? How much do you personally need to make?
- Pay yourself first, or your business is just an expensive hobby.
- Surround yourselves with experts. Know your strengths and weaknesses. Hire people to do the things you don’t know how to do. Learn from them.
