Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in music education but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Rachel Lynes, Founder of The Sing Space, located in Pewsey, United Kingdom.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
The Sing Space Musical Theatre Choir has over 1000 members across the country.
Tell us about yourself
After working as a West End performer and vocal coach for two decades, I wanted to bring the West End to communities and areas that wouldn't usually have these opportunities. With twenty Sing Space choirs across the country, each branch provides singers locally with the chance to work with a West End coach or professional vocalist on show tunes, harmony, and singing technique.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Running a thriving business that has grown from my own passion and joy is my daily nourishment. I can see how much it means to our members to have the chance to sing and perform together, making friends and growing in confidence, and they come together to make music. Every choir we launch gives me a chance to bring more joy to more people.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Having no one else to turn to for motivation when you're having a low day. But that can be mitigated once you find a good team to surround you.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Trust your gut; it'll lead you to places more rewarding than your head will.
- Learn by doing. Overthinking will keep you stuck in the 'what if' stage. Just start, and the rest will follow.
- Treat your team and your clients with respect, care, and kindness. Listen to them and value what they bring that you can't.
