Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Simone Little, Founder of The Simone Little, located in Beltsville, MD, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a Fractional COO and Operations Strategist for women in business. This means I take the load off of our CEOs and help them create new lines of business, implement them, manage the team, and analyze data to ensure that the health of the business is top-notch. It's essential for people who strive to be entrepreneurs to understand the basics of building a business foundation. And that's where I come in. I make sure that startups won't have so many growing pains. They have someone in their organization to help them strategize the best way to get them from point A to B without wasting so much money and time.

Tell us about yourself

I am the Operations & Business Strategist that ALL women CEOs need when they are scaling and restructuring their businesses. I specialize in teaching service-based CEOs how to make efficient and effective decisions in business, so they can get out of the weeds of their business and do more of what they enjoy.

My clients often comment on the high level of the organization I bring to the team environment and how my operating procedures, automation, and profit planning save them hours in their day while adding to their bottom line.

When I am not chasing around my two little children, enjoying the benefits of being a wife, or worshiping my God, I am helping my clients structure their businesses so that they can grow their revenue in half the time with none of the stress.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

That I've been able to pivot multiple times, and for me, that's an accomplishment. I'm a person who actually enjoys change, and if things stay the same too much, I feel the need to expand or level up in some way. So the biggest accomplishment is to be able to offload my salon, to train someone to run my salon while I'm able to run and manage my operations-based business.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest thing that comes with being a business owner is the mindset, honestly. The fight to not compare yourself with other people even if they're in the same industry, the ability to not let other people's thoughts of you (be it bad or good) get to you if that's not how you truly feel, but by having reasonable expectations of who you are and what you do.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Assess how bad you want it because it's not going to be easy. There are going to be a lot of roadblocks and negative feelings. It has some really great wins too. But if you don't want this bad enough for yourself, then it might not be something you actually need to be doing.
  2. Surround yourself with people who understand where you want to go so they can continue to fuel you. Community is really everything if you're an entrepreneur; otherwise, you'll feel like you're on a lonely island, and that's not fun.
  3. Understand how a business is supposed to work. That will help you not work yourself to death but also help you know when and how to outsource.
