Bringing Words to Life - The Savage Revolt
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Juliana Cummings, Founder of The Savage Revolt, located in Millbury, MA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
My business name is The Savage Revolt, but I am most recognized by my name. I am an author contracted with Pen & Sword, a British publisher in Yorkshire. I am also an editor of primarily historical fiction, though my clients write other genres as well.
Tell us about yourself
I have been writing for over thirty years, but it was in the past five years that I decided to make it my full-time job, along with my editing. I began by writing guest blogs on Tudor and Medieval history which is my main interest. I was soon contacted by Pen & Sword and recently just signed my fourth contract for publication. I also have self-published works on Amazon, which are primarily historical fiction. One of the things I enjoy most is editing manuscripts for my clients. I love being able to dive head-first into someone's novel and offer not only grammatical help but offer assistance in the overall feel of the book. I understand fully that my client's manuscripts are very dear to them, and I try my best to help them to improve their writing skills.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I am very proud to call myself a published author in a genre that I adore. I have always been passionate about writing and editing, and I think my biggest accomplishment would be that I have published works but also that I have helped so many other writers get their start.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things about being a business owner is finding the time to juggle my work along with being a mother of three and a wife.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- You need to be aggressive and proactive in your pursuit.
- Don't take criticism too personally.
- Success does not happen overnight.
