Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal care but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Amanda Mattingly, Owner of The Radiant Touch, located in Shepherdsville, KY, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

The Radiant Touch is a wellness spa; this is the place you come if you need therapeutic work and relaxation all bundled together. We strive to provide the most therapeutic work in the most relaxing environment possible. From facials to massage and spray tans, our clients all care about themselves not only physically but mentally. Our Team atmosphere is amazing, and we will help you figure out which therapist specializes in the treatment you need. We are huge community supporters and regularly find ways to give back by doing massage for donations, volunteering, or donating to local charities. We understand the importance of helping those in our community that in return, help support us.

Tell us about yourself

I was born and raised in the small (not so small anymore) town where I own my business. I never thought I would own my own business. If I'm honest, I never thought I was smart enough and didn't really give my future much thought. My husband pushed me to chase my passion; he believed in me more than ever. I love helping people. I have always been in the helping people field, from hospitals to working as a 911 operator. I have always had a passion for helping people.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is my team. I never expected or dreamed of having a team. I never wanted to be a leader or boss; I laugh to myself every time someone calls me that. My team is truly a team; we care about our clients, we want to truly help them, and our team environment does that because we don't compete with one another for clients; we all have different specialties and refer one another's clients to who we feel can help them the most.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest thing for me has been learning to delegate and when to turn it off. Learning from mistakes and making good decisions affect my team and me.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Research, don't compete with other businesses; find your tribe and market to them. To be successful, you must be prepared to put in the work; this isn't a 9/5 job. Always treat others the way you wish you to be treated. Always think of things from a client's perspective, not the owner's. Get involved in the community your business is in; you want them to support you and your business. You also need to support them and their families.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Find other like-minded business people, and have them mentor you. Remember, mistakes happen wrong decisions are made; just learn from them.
