Your Pet Is Just as Awesome as You Are! - The Public Pet
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in pet care but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jordan Lee, founder of The Public Pet, located in Honolulu, HI, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
The Public Pet is an urban pet supply store in the heart of Kaimuki. We focus on organic food & treats, accessories, supplies, and toys for both cats and dogs. Our customers are mainly locals that live in the Honolulu area, all from very different walks of life, coming together because they want the best for their pets.
Tell us about yourself
I have a visual merchandising background with a BFA in Interior Design & Architecture. Occasionally I do floral design on the side. I'm also the founder of our neighborhood's small business movement, Keep it Kaimuki. The Public Pet was created in 2016 because of the need for more pet shops that offered products I thought were cool. Our main thought in creating The Public Pet was, 'if we were a dog, what would I want to buy?' The rest was history with our super supportive team and loving pet community.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Seeing my business grow over the last six years and forming solid relationships with our local clientele. We are so proud to have created a wonderful community of pet lovers.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Trying to do twenty things at once, most of which goes on behind the scenes.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Work hard, stay humble, and always try to be a good human being.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
Owning a business is harder than it looks; enjoy the highs and lows, but know in the end, it's all worth it because you are following your dream.
