Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal and professional development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sheleana Taylor, Founder of The Promised Legacy, located in Pearl, MS, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

The Promised Legacy is a life coaching and consulting business that teaches women how to identify and dismantle generational behaviors and limiting beliefs that keep them stagnant, walks them through a proven process that establishes growth-oriented thought processes and behaviors that align with their path to success, and assists with defining balance within the different roles of their lives to achieve purpose and fulfillment. If that describes what you desire in life, then YOU are our customer, and we would love to help you achieve the lifestyle you desire and deserve.

Tell us about yourself

I was called into this profession. I ran from my calling for many years because the vision God showed me was so much bigger than me that it paralyzed me with fear. After some life-turning events, I finally surrendered and gave God my yes. I realized that my heart's desires were on the other side of my fear, so I had to face it head-on. I desire to inspire change through the life I lead, to establish financial freedom and generational wealth within my family, and to establish a blueprint that teaches other women to walk in their purpose and achieve the promised, filled life God created specifically for them.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is two-fold. Watching the vision God gave me come to fruition daily has truly blessed me. Also, watching the transformation of clients that had been denied for credit cards before they worked with me, followed the plan we created and got pre-approved for a mortgage loan to establish ownership, or clients who implement healthy boundaries and grow meaningful relationships that are mutually beneficial to their success and heal emotional traumas has truly made my heart smile. It makes all the hard work and sacrifices worth it.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Time management. As a business owner, you wear many hats, sometimes shifting through several within a day. That can be a lot, but if you figure out a balance between the roles and create a schedule that works for you, it gets easier. Systems are your friend.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Put God first in all you do and watch Him establish and grow everything connected to you. (This is first-hand advice, it was a game-changer for me.)
  2. Surround yourself with people who have produced the lifestyle/results you desire. Genuinely connect with them, seek their advice, follow and support their endeavors.
  3. Slow and steady wins the race. Take the time to build a solid foundation for your business. Don't always seek what's quick and easy but not lasting. Protect your investment for the present and future.
