Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Filip Keuppens, EVP of The Pickle Juice Company LLC., located in Mesquite, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

The Pickle Juice Company is a functional beverage company that develops and distributes USDA Organic hyper-functional products. Our flagship product, Pickle Juice (not to be confused with Pickle Brine from the jar), is the only product on the market scientifically proven to stop and prevent muscle cramps. Used by elite and amateur athletes all over the world as well as people who suffer from nighttime leg cramps, Pickle Juice can be found at over 15,000 retail stores in the US as well as Australia, South Africa, the UK, and Canada.

Tell us about yourself

As a former athlete, having competed at high-level mogul skiing and rugby, I've always had a passion for finding ways to improve performance. That, coupled with my experience working for large CPG companies and interest in product development, created a perfect storm that led to the state of our organization and its incredibly rapid growth and success. At Pickle Juice, it's our goal to create healthy, hyper-functional products while acting in an ethical and responsible way toward everyone that interacts with our organization.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I've been lucky to have been able to create a unique pathway to business that focuses on development, innovation, creativity, and responsibility. We have been able to create a hybrid go-to-market strategy that is part traditional CPG, part experiential, and part mission-based. The ability to work with approximately 500 non-profit charity events a year while bringing products to market is extremely rewarding.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

One of the biggest challenges is maintaining the bandwidth and focus on keeping up with growth and not losing sight of the ultimate objectives by getting bogged down in minutia.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

View your business from a consumer perspective, not yours. Ensure that you have a true value add and point of differentiation relative to the existing market, and don't ignore any potential hurdles that you will have to overcome.
