What's your business, and who are your customers?
As an experienced legal nurse consultant, I serve legal nurse consultants as a business coach. I help them grow their businesses, gain visibility and experience, and create strong businesses.
Tell us about yourself
After spending a year commuting on busy highways, I decided to become an entrepreneur and use my nursing skills in a different way. My early experiences as a nursing expert witness led me to realize I could build a business by subcontracting cases to other experts. That concept led to the creation of a multimillion-dollar business, which I sold after 28 years. Now I do what I love- work with some attorneys, coach LNCs, and write books. I love to help others and also to learn new things.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Building a multimillion-dollar business was my biggest achievement. Nothing in nursing school taught me how to run a business. Whereas my competitors kept a narrow perspective, I applied the concepts of internet marketing to a brick-and-mortar business and thrived.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Maintaining a work-life balance is a challenge. There is always work waiting to be done.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- If possible, avoid borrowing money to start a business. Success is uncertain and may take longer to achieve than you expect. Use savings.
- Pursue many avenues to be visible. Create videos, write for publication, and share content on social media. You never know in advance how that will profit you.
- Be persistent. Many people give up before their hard work pays off.
