Clarity and Confidence. Get Organized. - The Organized CEO
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Becky Moffit, Owner of The Organized CEO, located in Knoxville, TN, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I work with online business owners like bloggers, coaches, and service providers who are feeling overwhelmed by all the details that come with running a business. We work together to create a strategy to organize and simplify their businesses using various tools and DIY templates.
Tell us about yourself
I started my own business for one reason, freedom. I tried a variety of careers, from civil engineering to teaching English in South Korea, but everything I tried left me feeling miserable. I blamed the bosses, the environment, and the work. But it turned out that what really made me miserable was not having freedom in my schedule or being able to choose who I work with, where I work, or what I do for work. Owning my own business is one of the hardest things I've ever done, but it's also brought me more joy than I ever could have imagined.
I love working with like-minded entrepreneurs who are creating businesses that align with their lives instead of having to fit life in around a 9-5 job. It's an amazing feeling to know that I'm easing their stress, helping them focus, and enabling them to do what they enjoy.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Never giving up.
There are days when I want to quit when it feels like it would be easier to just go back to being an engineer. But then I remember why I started, and I think about all the people who have emailed to say, "I was so overwhelmed before I found your templates, but now my business is growing!" Those moments make it all worth the effort of running a business. I've built something I can truly be proud of that helps other business owners and supports my family.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Staying focused in an ever-changing industry. There's always something new to learn, changes with social media platforms, fresh ideas, and software updates. I feel like every day, I'm adding ten things to my to-do list but only checking off 3. It's a challenge to stay focused on what's best for your community and the true priorities for growing your business. You have to learn to avoid "shiny object syndrome" so that you don't burn yourself out.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Take action. Every single week, even if it's just something small, take action toward your goals.
- Find support. On those days when you doubt yourself, you'll need someone to turn to for encouragement. It can be your partner, family, friends, another business owner, a coach, or a community. Just make sure you've got someone beside you for the hard days.
- Be bold. You never know what might happen if you just try.
