What's your business, and who are your customers?

The Nursing Way is an online community for Nurses that offers a gathering place to connect, recharge, renew inspiration, and grow professionally. We provide a constantly evolving array of content, resources, and live events, all designed specifically for Nurses. With over 24 million Nurses worldwide, our vision is big. Tell us about yourself

I have had an exciting and dynamic career in Nursing. I have been able to do all kinds of Nursing, from working in Intensive Care to becoming a teacher and leading projects like bringing arts into healthcare. I have traveled all over the world with Dr. Jean Watson giving me the opportunity to meet and be inspired by thousands and thousands of Nurses. At this point in my career, I asked myself, what can I give back? What can I do with the abundance of experience, the abundance of interest, and the passion I have for Nursing? What can I give back to Nurses?

It is exciting to think about Nurses today and what Nursing can be in the future. We started this company to make it easier to reach and gather Nurses together so that we can support each other, inspire each other, and create the future we want. The tremendous struggles faced during the pandemic highlighted the need to bring much-needed resources and support to Nurses, but those needs were there before the pandemic and have only grown since. Together with Nurse colleagues, we started The Nursing Way to focus on what Nurses need and what they are most passionate about, helping and healing others. We are fueling that fire in our soul, why we went into nursing in the first place. We feel the best way to do that is to leverage today’s technology and communication tools so that it is easy to reach and build community with Nurses all over the world.

What motivates me each day is three things:

  1. Feeling my own sense of being alive in the world.
  2. Thinking of ways to help Nurses be fully present with self and caring in any moment that allows them to be connected to the greater field of love.
  3. That each day, through my actions, I am reaching people, touching people, even if just one.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

What a phenomenal team of synergistic people with a shared passion, shared vision, true commitment, and all kinds of skills have gathered to make this happen.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Trusting the process is the hardest part. You have to trust every day that you’re moving forward, even if you feel like you’re doing back amongst obstacles and barriers. Trust you are learning from these moments and that the learning is informing your way forward. Trusting the organic process that things are manifesting, lining up as they should be, even if you might not understand it at the moment. The other part of trust is understanding you might have a different timeframe in your mind, but to trust, the process is unfolding as it should.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Trust is foundational.
  2. Perseverance – self-motivated.
  3. Passion.
  4. Patience.
