Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Peggy Easterling, Founder of The Mindset School, located in Austin, TX, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Walls of self-protection and phony masks are what many women show the world while inside, they feel unbearable pain and pressure, so I created a membership and coaching practice to help women move forward in their Christian identity and finally smile authentically from the inside out.
Tell us about yourself
I grew up in East Texas, a carefree child who spent every Sunday at my grandparent's home after church playing and laughing with my cousins outdoors. I grew up in such a large family, and we didn't have to invite the neighbor kids over to have a full baseball team. We built forts and played pretend together and would dance and sing carefree. The pretend play gained a different meaning for me when at age 8, I became the victim of sexual abuse by my grandfather. I no longer pretended with dolls and laughter but was told to pretend that the trauma never occurred. I still went to the grandparent's home weekly but watched over my shoulder in fear that the abuse could reoccur. This led to a consistent state of fight or flight, wiring my brain in self-protection and pushing away authentic relationships due to distrust.
Although God used me to do some amazing things in my early life in spite of my skeletons, it was not until my 40s that I became fed up with the fake, phony smile. With help, I finally unpacked and surrendered the basement of my heart to Christ, learned to smile from within, and began to have fun and enjoy life again. I am making it my life's mission to help other women smile from the inside out. I want to wrap loving arms around the child still balled up in darkness within women and show them they can have fun, be playful, and love to live again. I founded The Mindset School to forever be a student of renewing my mind the way God intended and to help others do the same.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is empowering women to look within themselves to see the potential that was within them all along, and they did not need anything external to be empowered. Once they realize this, they can never go back from knowing they have what they need within them to succeed!
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
The hardest thing that comes up as a business owner is technology. I have learned so much about website creation, online business, webinars, online marketing, and digital design. I am grateful for the group of online entrepreneurs that I am a part of that supported me through this process!
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Don't stop! You will get to your goal if you decide that you are going to go for it. Make the pivots and adjustments necessary along the way but do not quit!
- Know your why! Your why is the fuel that keeps you going. Mine is the women I serve, but if you discover your why it gives you fuel to never quit, even when days are hard!
- Find community! Find others that are on the same journey and do it together! Drawing from the strength of community and giving and offering help to others along the way is such an important piece to success in business. There are great communities of support for learning online entrepreneurship. You cannot do it alone!
