Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Adrienne Cress, Co-Founder of The Loveliness, located in Portsmouth, NH, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
We co-founded The Loveliness, an online community of spiritually minded “ladybugs.” Our community seeks personal growth and a deeper connection with the soul. They want to explore a variety of connections through creative expression, meditation, online courses, channellings, and other playful endeavors!
Tell us about yourself
We are both therapists with decades of experience between us. Each day in our practices, we are intimately in touch with the deep struggles of being here as well as the incredible transformation that occurs when we awaken to our true selves. The world is in deep need of this kind of change in consciousness, and it is our calling to hold a space for people to awaken.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Our biggest accomplishment has been the self-teaching that comes with entrepreneurship. As therapists, we knew nothing about filmmaking for online courses, branding, or social media marketing. In many cases, we relied purely on our determination and curiosity to find our way through.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Staying present with the process and not letting impatience drive your decisions. It can be challenging to step back to watch the longer arc of your business’s progress and trust that messiness and disappointment are part of its long-term growth - and your personal growth as well, if you are up for it!
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
As Marianne Williamson once said, “our greatest fear is not that we are inadequate, our greatest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.” To start, run, and grow a business is to remind yourself each day of your immeasurable power. Not just when you are “succeeding” but also when you inevitably stumble and fall. It takes much courage and belief in your innate power to peel yourself off the pavement, lick your wounds, gather your lessons, and come out even stronger for it. Slowing down and staying present for all of it will keep you from bypassing your growth.
