Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in life coaching, but not sure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Alex Hart of GrowGritFit.

What's your business and who are your customers?

I am a diet culture and fitness drop out, who still LOVES fitness and eating some veggies, not all.

My passion is helping women who have been riding the diet and fitness roller coaster to break free from body image beliefs that are holding them back from living a full life.

I combine knowledge around body image, fitness, nutrition and my own life experience to help women deconstruct their own beliefs, learn what makes them passionate, and build a new life where the focus is on who they are instead of their body.

Tell us about yourself

The real story of how I got started was I remember sitting in my kitchen one day and I told my BF, at the time, that I felt like something was missing and I had a lot going well but I missed feeling passionate about what I did everyday.

He was the one who insisted that I invest in myself and find what I love - which we both knew was food and fitness.

I started taking health and wellness courses and going through that I realized that I didn't want to be a health coach in the sense of "planning out meal prep guides" etc. but I wanted to help people feel comfortable and happy with who they are.

I dug into my past and started thinking about my own health journey and realized that a lot of what was motivating me was hating my body and I realized that that was what I wanted to help people not fall into the same place I was in for so long.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I am fairly new to owning my business but I think my biggest accomplishment right now is stepping out and taking a chance on myself.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Balancing everything! I have a full time job on top of this and you have to have good time management to be successful at doing both.

What are the top 3 tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Always stay true to yourself and remember why you started your business in the first place.

Networking is your best friend.

Always focus on your niche and make sure that they as you grow in your business you still are in touch with your niche.

If there was one thing you could do repeatedly to help grow your business, what would it be?

In person events! Covid put a little bit of a stop to that but I think the best way to grow your business is to engage them in an event that makes them feel good.

What are some of the things you put in place to maintain a healthy work/life balance?

I make sure to always take care of myself first. I take time to workout, I make sure that I have boundaries up (I have app limits on social media), I need to show up as my best self in what I do and the best way to do that is by making sure that I do take care of myself.

If I need a break, I take a break and there's nothing wrong with that.

Who are some of your favorite entrepreneurs and why?

Chalene and Brock Johnson are my favorite. I think their ability to pivot (Chalene from fitness into marketing) but keep their content is always on brand and niche focused which is amazing.

Podcasts are great ways to learn more information on the go and always stay in touch with the content that your niche is consuming.

A great book to read is The Universe Has Your Back - to keep you in line and remind yourself to stay true to who you are.
