Helping RDs Communicate Nutrition Using Art - The Kerrminator
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sara Kerr, CEO of The Kerrminator LLC, located in Portland, OR, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
The Kerrminator LLC offers creative services to entrepreneurs in dietetics and similar health and wellness fields. My services include video editing, fine art, and design. I also offer resources for getting started in video creation, editing, and creating a YouTube channel.
Tell us about yourself
I'm an artist and Registered Dietitian and extremely passionate about helping dietitians better communicate nutrition with their audience, especially using visual media like art, video, and design. Effective communication that takes into account different learning styles can be a key component of client understanding and follow-through.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Consistency. It's a simple concept, but consistently showing up and putting in the work because I'm EXCITED is a huge accomplishment in my eyes.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
It is knowing when to "log off." When you find work you love, it's easy to want to do it all the time. Finding work-life balance has been challenging for me, but I think that's always going to be a balancing act that will fluctuate. The other big thing is stepping outside my comfort zone and doing things that scare me, like cold-pitching, live-streaming, or talking about my business on social media. They can be scary but important for growth.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- You don't need to know everything now. Get started, and trust that you will learn as you go.
- If lack of confidence or imposter syndrome is getting in your way, remember all the silly products and services people sell online. There is space for you.
- "Mistakes" are data. Learn from them, calibrate, and move forward.
