Roadmap for Radical Impact - The Human Innovation Garage

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Stephan Thieringer, Founder of The Human Innovation Garage, located in Boston, MA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Today I lead a boutique firm focused on peoples' individual presence, leadership impact, executive trauma, high-performer trajectories, and the cultural transformation as well as co-creative dynamics of teams. Clients we have served are in the financial industry, venture capital, real estate, the service and manufacturing industries, educational institutions as well as government agencies. We work nationally and internationally.

Tell us about yourself

My first leadership position was for a global hospitality company. Creating experiences and people was always at the core for me. After a decade in hotels, I started to get a taste of technology and the power of a platform enabling ubiquitous access to learning and training. That led to my first SaaS startup in the late 90ties.

As I matured in the education technology industry, providing resources that are not guarded by societal privilege was a major impact point and mission for me.

More than ever today, I am driven by impact and not a list of checkpoints and goals. I do believe that defining your day through a clear mission in life is important. Thus I invite all my clients to create their personal mission statement - the more clarity you have about what you seek to impact and what tools and talents you have available to do that on a consistent basis, the more likely you're able to succeed and drive that personal mission. And you will also gain clarity on where to seek support. A favorite quote of mine is this: "Let me serve and support you to see the invisible and do the impossible."

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

The personal as well as professional relationships and the community of trusted friends that I have been able to build and enjoy - and the reciprocal trust I receive. I am tremendously grateful for that.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The never-ending roller coaster and the reality that there are [!!!!] ups and downs - be ready for both and embrace and enjoy it completely! And most importantly, learn from it, and don't forget to celebrate along the way a lot!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Learn yourself, be self-aware and create habits and rituals that allow you continuous growth.
  2. Remember, values are actions observed.
  3. You are never too important, too busy, too [add anything you like here], to be kind.
