What's your business, and who are your customers?
I have a personal brand known as Diary of An Honest Mom. As a digital creator, writer, speaker, and mental health advocate, I create content that validates, encourages, and empowers moms to value themselves and change their lives. My followers are women between the ages of 25-45 who are everyday moms who may be struggling or looking for more support on their journeys.
Tell us about yourself
I began creating honest, funny, and candid content on Tiktok in 2020 out of a desire to connect with other women and to be creative. I grew my platform as a hobby, and as everything grew, it became a business. Each day my hope is to touch the life of another woman so that she can feel seen and validated in her struggles as a mother, that they can be encouraged and so that she feels empowered to make changes to her mindset, her expectations, and her life so that motherhood is less overwhelming. My hope is to make mothers' well-being a priority for moms but also a priority for society as a whole because when moms are okay, everyone benefits.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment is changing the lives of women and mothers for the better. On paper, you could say it is amassing an audience of nearly 1.5M in 2 years without experience or a plan, but I like to think of individual successes overtop of a number of followers or money.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The hardest thing about being a business owner is being the one in charge of everything, even when you don't necessarily know what to do next. It's constantly feeling like there is more to do all the time and struggling to stop working- especially when you are so passionate about it.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Get really clear on why you are doing what you are doing, and base all of your decisions on that. You have to do something you enjoy to do it for the long term.
- Take risks, try things, and don't beat yourself up if it doesn't go to plan.
- Know that nobody has it all figured out, and we all start somewhere.
