Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Nuria Corbi, Founder of The Home Boss, located in London, UK.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is called The Home Boss, and I teach people how to make an income online from publishing and digital products. My customers come from all over the world and from all walks of life and are looking for ways to make a side income or a full-time income online from their homes.

Tell us about yourself

It all started in 2010 when I started an online fashion jewelry business. I saw success building my shops on eBay, Etsy, Amazon, and my website. There was a lot of competition, though, and I wanted to scale the business and came across blogging, which led me to low-content book publishing. Low-content books are books you don't need to write, like notebooks, planners, and journals. All you really have to do is design the covers, and you can use ready-made interiors and upload them to Amazon's Kindle Direct Publishing, which do the rest. From there, I branched out to also create children's books and other digital products. I became successful in a relatively short space of time. I decided that I wanted to teach others how to build their own business from home. My motto is: if I can do it, you can too!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment so far is to win book awards for my children's books and have people email me to let me know that they followed my teachings and that they have also published books and won awards and that this changed their lives.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner is staying consistent in creating quality content and products regularly. It can be difficult to come up with new ideas or to find the energy and motivation on a regular basis. It's important to take time to rest and recharge to stay creative and productive.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Have a plan and set goals. Planning your business and setting goals is an important motivational tool and will give your business and ideas some structure. Goals are also a good reminder as to why you are doing this. Your why will drive you and give you the energy when things get tough.
  2. Stay organised and maintain good records. This is valuable as it saves time and energy and helps you focus on what is important.
  3. Network with others in your field. Building relationships in business is very beneficial in learning from other business owners' experiences, and it helps build a community of support and accountability. Anything to build your confidence will help you through the tougher times.
