Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Ann Murphy, Founder of The Healthy Self Mindset, located in Dayton, OH, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
The Healthy Self Mindset is my holistic health coaching practice with the mission of helping women with self-care, relationships with food, and overall wellness. My clients are extraordinary women who lean into the mindset of making themselves a priority in order to feel good about themselves and do good for others. Each of my clients is a self-motivator for me to continue to push myself as they push themselves and show up each day with an eagerness and willingness to continue to evolve into exactly who they want to be.
Tell us about yourself
In 2017 I became a certified holistic health coach through the Institute of Integrative Nutrition, which I am now an ambassador for. My health journey began when I was healing from a very disordered way of eating. I dove into every diet, "lose weight quick" scheme, and strict exercise regimen in between until I finally was enveloped in the world of holistic health. Our health expands beyond the boundaries of nutrition and fitness. Instead, it includes our mental, relationship, financial, educational, and self-care health as well. Fully embracing that idea of holistic health helped me to get on the right journey to treating my body with respect and is what led me to have a strong desire to help others do the same.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as the owner and founder of The Healthy Self Mindset is creating a compassionate, educational, and judgment-free community of not only my clients but anyone who follows me on any platform. To spread kindness and have a space of incredibly wonderful people on social media and beyond is so rewarding and motivates me to continue to grow The Healthy Self Mindset into something more.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
The hardest thing that comes with being a business owner is feeling as though you're never doing enough. This is the biggest cause of what leads to burnout, in my opinion. There is always another goal, another service, another tip, etc., that I want to share and get out quickly to help others, but I also know that there is only one of me. If I advocate for others to take it one step at a time and care for their body and minds, then I have to do the same.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
My top three tips for anyone looking to start, run, and grow a business today are to be passionate about it. I come from a family with a strong work ethic and entrepreneurial mindset, and the projects that have found success are projects that start with dedication and passion. There will be many downs and many ups, but it's the willingness to accept the mistakes and lessons along the way and apply them to future opportunities that may bring you and your business to new heights.
