What's your business, and who are your customers?
The Harris Strategy Group is a nonprofit, government relations, and political consulting firm serving elected officials and nonprofit and grassroots leaders/organizations.
Tell us about yourself
I’ve always been motivated to do work that helps others. I know this is a cliche, but I genuinely mean helping others. In my career, I’ve had amazing positions, but I never felt fulfilled until I was directly helping others make a difference in the world or in the lives of others. I’m motivated to continue to do what I do because I feel that through the work that I provide to the leaders and organizations that I work with, I’m essentially helping the people they serve.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner has been staying afloat and alive while finishing up my doctoral degree. It’s been one of the most challenging and rewarding adventures I’ve been on by far.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The hardest thing that comes with being a business owner is understanding the economic times of the country or the world, for that matter, and knowing how to adjust and roll with them all.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Be consistent, don’t let your fears drown out the reason why you started, and don’t try to do everything on your own. Ask for help.
