Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Regan Booths, owner of The Frosting Fairy, located in Greer, SC, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
The Frosting Fairy is a custom bakery that specializes in decorated sugar cookies. From weddings to birthdays to client gifts, we make your occasion a little sweeter! Our clients have an appreciation for the look and taste our quality products bring to the table. They enjoy sharing a one-of-a-kind edible piece of art with clients, family, or friends. Our clients enjoy supporting small local minority-owned businesses and are eager to boost the local business community.
Tell us about yourself
I started The Frosting Fairy in 2018. I wanted to positively impact my community and share my skills with the locals. Over the years, we have supported many local charities and have brought smiles to many across the Upstate. Being able to put a smile on someone’s face always keeps me going. When a client sees their cookies for the first time and their eyes light up, it just makes me so happy to be able to do what I love.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Being able to be a part of celebrations across the Upstate. For example, being able to make cookies for Jim Gaffigan when he performed in Greenville, being a part of a local supplier diversity day, and being a part of the Upstate Business Alliance’s Annual Meeting.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Work/Life Balance. We have been so blessed with the community's support that sometimes I lose track of being able to take some "me time."
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Make sure you do your research. Some people think it’s so easy to start a business, but there’s a lot more to it than meets the eye.
- Have a support system. Being an entrepreneur is mentally and physically exhausting some days, so being able to have a confidant to bounce ideas off of is very helpful.
- Find your niche and run with it. You can’t do everything. Find what you’re good at and go with it.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
Go with the flow, things can change in an instant, and if you aren’t willing to adapt, you may be left behind.
