Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Patricia Greenberg, Owner of The Fitness Gourmet, located in Los Angeles, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I run a business called The Fitness Gourmet. I am a nutritionist, chef, fitness professional, and an Aging Well Coach. My clientele is people of all ages looking to improve their lives to live well and age well.

Tell us about yourself

I started The Fitness Gourmet by working as a dietician and saw how much food and movement played a role in our wellness. I went on to teach nutrition to chefs to increase awareness in restaurants about healthy eating. And for myself, I took up long-distance running to reduce stress. The combination of the two led me to where I am today. Every day I wake up and say to myself take care of yourself so you can be there for those who need you.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I took my knowledge to the airwaves, and now I host shows on wellness throughout TVland, radio, and online. My biggest accomplishment is my four books, with a fifth on the way.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The hardest thing about being a business owner is when faced with a problem, how to make quick decisions that are best for the business and not listen to what others are telling you.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. The first thing is to always hire professionals to help you out. Family and friends give the best discounts, but they may not be what is best for the business.
  2. Start slow, don't take on too much at once. One product or service at a time, become an expert, and then expand.
  3. Take care of yourself at all times. If you are tired, rest; if you are stressed, take a walk, and most importantly, find time to spend away from the business to clear your head. The best ideas come when you least expect them.
