Making Meaningful Connections - The Fierce Collective

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Amy Christman, Founder of The Fierce Collective, located in Colorado Springs, CO, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am the Founder of The Fierce Collective, a virtual sweatworking community for female entrepreneurs. What the hell is sweatworking, you ask? It's an opportunity for fitness and wellness-minded individuals to come together around movement but also enjoy some expansive programming plus an opportunity to meet other like-minded people.

On top of that, I'm also a coach for those seeking to start something new but do not quite have the confidence to get there. I spend a decade in the fitness industry helping people build confidence through movement; now, I'm doing it through mindset! I love helping women who want to start or scale a business, advocate for themselves more at work or at home, and teach them how to be their own biggest cheerleaders.

Tell us about yourself

My passion has always been movement! I started working out at a very young age and pursued a career in fitness to allow my adventurous and fun spirit to become my livelihood. Fast forward to ten years later, and my body could not take it anymore. I still wanted to have an impact on people's lives, but I knew I could do it without destroying my own body in the meantime. I've always loved teaching women how to find their own inner confidence and power through movement, but now I do it with a lot of mindset work, accountability, and just reminding people how badass they are. Everyone needs a hype girl in their life, and that is 100% me! Fun fact: I actually won six spirit awards in high school because I was always cheering on my teammates and keeping up that positivity. It just so happened to translate into a coaching business!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Just getting started! It is SO HARD to put yourself out there and feel like what you're doing is making an impact. The biggest hurdle for me was just taking that initial step. I've been putting one foot in front of the other since and haven't looked back. I'm so proud of the community we've built and the clients I've helped.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Not being able to "turn off." Sometimes I find myself on my computer on Friday nights instead of shutting down and spending time with my family. It's also been hard to juggle running a household and running a business at the same time. I stay at home part-time with my 4-year-old son, so scheduling client calls around his school schedule poses its own challenges, but in the same turn, it allows me to be flexible.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Don't believe everything coaches and business owners post on social media about scaling to 6 figures overnight. It's totally possible but what they aren't sharing are the costs that come with being a business owner. It takes a lot of time, money, energy, tears, and mistakes to keep it sustainable.
  2. Turn to your community first instead of screaming into the void. I kept my business separate from my friends for a while because I didn't have the confidence to tell them what I was doing. Once I opened up and told them, they were 100% supportive and became members of our sweatworking collective. Not only that, they are a great referral source!
  3. Hire a coach! It can feel really isolating and overwhelming to get started, and it's so empowering to have someone in your corner guiding you on your journey. My best investments have always been the ones I've made in myself, and coaching is always at the top of my list of recommendations for people getting started. Find a coach that aligns with you and your vision, enables you to make decisions that feel good for you and your business, and helps connect you strategically to people who will help you be successful.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

If something is nudging you in another direction, don't be afraid to listen to that voice and follow the unknown path. Not everyone will understand or accept it, but if it's in your heart, follow it and see where it goes! You won't ever regret betting on yourself.
