Wellbeing Tools for Children - The Feelings Fairy
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kristin Pittman, Creator and Director of The Feelings Fairy, located in Pasadena, CA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
The Feelings Fairy provides a wellbeing program for children of all ages. The lessons and activities support creating a tool kit that children will have for life. Our program guides children in learning about emotions, ways to regulate emotions, and discovering their personal strengths, which allows them to tap into their natural creative abilities. We all have been told at some point in our lives to "pay attention" and never learned how to do that. The Feelings Fairy's program gives children the opportunity to understand what benefits we gain by paying attention and choosing to make choices that feel right for them.
Tell us about yourself
I have been a professional educator for 20 years, teaching children from the ages of 4-13. Six years ago, I dove into learning about mindfulness practices and took classes that provided me with a curriculum to bring the practices to children. Learning about mindfulness and putting a personal practice in place changed my life. I realized I needed this when I was a kid. Knowing the benefits and the changes that can happen in life motivates me to work with children and teach them valuable practices. I recently stepped out of a part-time position teaching in the classroom to dedicate my career to offering wellbeing lessons to children and inspiring others to know the abundant possibilities in life.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I believe that my biggest accomplishment as a business owner is when I put all my doubt aside and realized that I am successful. There have been moments when I have walked away and felt I have failed. Quickly shifting my mindset to I am successful, and I will only fail if I quit comes to me, and I dive back in.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
I feel that one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner is managing all that there is to do.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Believe in yourself. If you know deep in your heart that you have something to offer the world, then do it.
- Be open to making changes to your original idea. Don't hold on too tightly!
- Seek support from others that have been through the same process. People are willing to share and offer ideas. Remember, you are not alone, and you don't have to know everything.
