Be Your Favorite Version of Yourself - The Daily Sweat

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Tiffany Lathrop, Owner of The Daily Sweat, located in Kennebunk, ME, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I own a boutique yoga + barre studio in Kennebunk, Maine. Above all, it's a community. A place where people of all ages, ethnicities, fitness levels, and sizes can gather in pursuit of living their best life + being their favorite version of themselves.

Tell us about yourself

I started yoga during an internship on a dare. A fellow intern I was working with said we should try out a Bikram class together before work; she had done it before + missed it. I went for ten days, purchased a month-long package + never returned. Fast forward another year + my boss at my next internship practiced Bikram as well; his wife was a teacher. I started a work-study program at her studio + fell in love. In 2010, I began teaching after college when I was living in Denver. I fell in love with the community there, the studio. I've taught all over the country in different disciplines. The early birds (5:45AMers) keep me waking up every morning when my alarm goes off. That crew of people, no matter where in the world you are, is dedicated, exhibits perseverance + always cares enough to know who you are.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Letting go of the people - both employees + clients - that I wasn't going to please without letting it hurt for too long. In the beginning, I took everything to hurt; I mulled over it for months. I now practice letting things go much sooner + the art of learning to say no.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Learning how to take care of myself as an individual - I'm a mom, wife, daughter, granddaughter, dog mom, chicken mom, yogi, student, and leader - sometimes I forget that + I just focus on the task at hand. I am slowly, four years later, learning how to take a deep breath + just be me. I'm also slowly learning how to be proud of my winds.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Jump in with both feet.
  2. Know your competition + what's going on in the industry, but don't let it hold you back.
  3. Celebrate your wins.
