Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Vanessa Jarman, Founder of The Connection Hub, located in Toronto, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I help my clients nurture their innate wisdom, work through and dismantle limiting beliefs, and heal views and perspectives that no longer serve them or the direction they would like to move towards. I empower my clients to trust themselves, create their paths, and always do what feels best. I have enjoyed my one-on-one time so much with others that I have recently started a YouTube channel, The Connection Hub, to bring these tools on a larger scale. Some would say I am a personal development coach, but really, I just see myself as an individual who can relate to anyone feeling stuck and interested in personal freedom.

Tell us about yourself

I was a very in-tuned child and, most importantly, confident with the information I had known from nowhere else except my own inner knowing. As I grew older, the energy around me grew louder, and my teen years caused me to recoil and want to shut down, not knowing how to handle what I could not see but only feel. But then, several years ago, my life began to change. I would have never considered myself an intuitive person. Sure, I could pick up on alarming vibes, but besides keeping safe, I didn't believe intuition could be used in such practical ways. In 2017, the floodgates reopened, and I started to notice the connection I had experienced years ago with everything around me. I became increasingly interested in what everyday experiences were communicating with me, and diving deeper into my intuitive sense and developing a more precise connection with The Universe became a focus. I learned and experimented in every way I could. Did I know I would set out to empower others in the same way? Not at all. But knowing how much my intuition has helped me and supported me with everything from career choices to relationships, love, and home... my learned skill drives me to provide others with the same tools. I will never forget the years I felt closed off, lost, and disconnected. Those years inspired my relationship with God and pushed me to propel my business forward above all else.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Taking that leap of faith and allowing my heart to lead, even when I had no idea what the path ahead looked like, was maybe not my most significant accomplishment, but my bravest. I didn't only want to feel abundant as a business owner, but I wanted to wake up feeling happier and more fulfilled with my life and my choices, so I'd have to say the relationship I've grown with myself is really high on the accomplishments list.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The financial aspect of starting a new business was probably the rockiest part of the journey, but month after month, my bills were made, and my faith grew increasingly. As a result, I was able to create more headway, and in my line of business, where the heart comes first before the mind, I had no other choice than to trust I would be provided for, and I was. Managing finances is just one piece of the puzzle, or should I say only one hat of the many a new business owner has to wear. But the learning curves have been empowering, and wearing many hats means I can also help others in many different ways. The challenges are all a part of the package, but in the end, they're all worth it.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Always return to your WHY. Why did you want to branch out and start your own business in the first place? Next, I would suggest having a "flexible plan." This implies figuring out your direction while also being open to the unexpected. Sometimes a day can look entirely different than what you intended, but it's important to trust in the detours. Lastly, stay open and curious and allow your heart to lead.
