Be a Better Communicator - The Comvia Group

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Michael Piperno, Principal at The Comvia Group, located in New Hope, PA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

The Comvia Group is a leadership communication coaching and training consultancy. We help senior talent get their messages heard, convince stakeholders, become better presenters, improve interpersonal relationships, and inspire high-performing teams.

Tell us about yourself

I truly believe that my purpose is to help people be better communicators. Doing that every day motivates me to the fullest. Throughout my career, I've taught, mentored, and coached professionals to communicate their best. There are many executive coaches out there. I'm different because I know when to coach and also when to teach since I'm a trained educator as well as a seasoned entrepreneur.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Starting two successful businesses in a row ranks up there at the top. Whenever I feel like I have not accomplished enough in my career, I remind myself that most people don't have the stamina or courage to start one business, let alone two, in their lifetimes.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things as a consultant is to avoid taking work simply because it's "work" and will pay the bills. We all need to make a living, but I've been most successful when I've had the courage to say "no" to business that was not a good fit — leaving room for business that is more fulfilling and mutually beneficial to the client and me.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Always remember what you're worth — and if a client does not value your worth, find a new client.
  2. Be proud of what you bring to the table, even if thousands of other people do the same thing you do. Nobody will do it the way you can.
  3. Pay other people to do the things you dislike and know you will procrastinate on.
