What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a Gallup-certified Strengths coach and use the CliftonStrengths assessment to help leaders and teams discover how they can use their top five strengths to add value to the teams and their organizations and build trust with each other.

Tell us about yourself

I have been a leader and team consultant for 30 years and discovered the CliftonStrengths assessment six years ago. It changed my perspective on helping others because it is a positive way to see how you add value every day, to your job, to your family, to your work, and to your life.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is helping others discover their own strengths and go on to find jobs, careers, teams, and companies that are best suited for their own strengths. Finding where you belong and can contribute is quite fulfilling.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Finding new clients is always the most challenging, but as a business school professor, I'm blessed by students and former students who regularly recommend me to their companies and colleagues to help them with their teams.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

The three tips I would share would be:

  1. Know your own strengths and how those strengths can help others.
  2. Focus on cultivating a trustworthy network of colleagues whom you can support and who can support and recommend you.
  3. Always look for new ways to grow your business through writing, speaking, and giving back.
