What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is The Candid Collective, a one-woman executive ghostwriting agency, and we serve B2B service-based businesses that are looking for storytelling content that sells.

Tell us about yourself

I'm an executive ghostwriter, and my motivation for the work that I do is partnering with powerful brands and founders and helping them tell stores that subliminally sell their products and services that also sound like your own handwriting. I love getting to see my client in their most authentic Light, doing what they love, and helping that little sparkle be the magic (and the secret) to driving consistent sales in their business.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

There was a time in my life when being a "freelance writer" seemed like a pipedream. Now, I'm an executive ghostwriter who not only writes for clients but also tells stories (and for a highly profitable living)!! I'm also able to self-fund my career as a self-published non-fiction author.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Learning how to manage your time, finances, and organization without having a boss tell you what to do or how to do it. The learning curve is extremely steep, especially during the first three years of business, but if you can make it through that, there is so much abundance and satisfaction waiting for you on the other side.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Focus on growing an email list from the very first day. Social media is changing faster than ever before, and your email list is the only audience you own.
  2. If you're not having fun while doing it and enjoying the creative, highly iterative process of entrepreneurship, why do it at all?
  3. Your gifts—that thing you can do so easily it feels like breathing—are the secret to the time, freedom, and financial abundance you seek. Don't underestimate the power of doubling down on what you do best. The world needs your Light and what you've got to offer.
