Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with David Hubbard, owner of The Butchery, located in Sylvan Lake, MI, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Local, old school meets new school butcher shop, owned by a husband and wife chef team! Bringing the people of our region the best meat anywhere!
Tell us about yourself
I've been cooking and or in the food business since I was 12 years old. I've worked in some of the Michigans' best restaurants and hotels over the years and cut meat for some of the best butchers around. With a wealth of experience and knowledge, I wanted to do my own thing, and I did; here I am 5 years later!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Getting through the pandemic as a food service provider and food retailer, I'm most proud of the fact that my wife and I didn't close one day. We're here to take care of our communities food needs!
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
We're always trying to provide the very best service and the very best meat anywhere. During times like we're in, getting products consistently is tougher and tougher, so letting down the customers is hard.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Start, do it, don't just talk about it.
- Running, be involved; it's yours; know your numbers.
- Growth, learn social media and the ways it can grow your business.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
Even when times are tough, know that the ones that succeed are the ones that worked the hardest; keep grinding!
