Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sebastian Lehner, owner of The Butchers Son, located in Edmonton, AB, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are a micro butcher shop in the heart of Edmonton, and we sell premium beef and sausage house-made and imported from Europe.

Tell us about yourself

I'm a butcher in the 5th generation and grew up in my parent's butcher shop in Germany in the heart of Bavaria. Growing up in Europe, I always wanted to become a chef but made it as a butcher with heart and soul. And Fulfilling my linage is the goal at this point. Bringing good European-style food to Edmonton and seeing people enjoying it and appreciating it is so far the best experience.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

The biggest accomplishment at this point is that starting a business from absolutely nothing has brought me where I am now.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Running a business itself is the hardest thing I have ever done in my life. Starting it from nothing and seeing it growing is the best experience ever, and I think I can speak for every small business owner.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Courage.
  2. Never give up.
  3. Lots of Patients.
