What's your business, and who are your customers?
Meaningful business or personal gift buying is made easy and customizable. The Breath Spa is a digital platform to purchase online gift cards and eco-friendly, plant-based products to show you care, to say "Thank You," to celebrate that customer, employee, family member, or friend. Recipients can choose from a variety of collections, including:
- Sleep.
- Fitness.
- Kids. Pets.
- Mental Health.
- Beauty.
- Gardening.
In addition, each gift card purchase comes with a FREE Breathing Technique for sleep, stress, and digestion.
Tell us about yourself
I am a licensed physical therapist with advanced education in cardiac medical yoga, trauma-informed yoga, and breath work, a speaker and educator with appearances in major media and radio, and a working family caregiver. I essentially left my job, my home, my friends, and my life as I knew it and moved across the country to care for both of my parents, who had and have complicated health issues. I know first-hand the struggles and exhaustion that come with trying to juggle both your personal and professional lives. I had little to no time for real Self-Care. The Breath Spa was created out of this desire to provide meaningful, customizable self-care gift cards and eco-friendly products to help others, like myself, find gifts that add value to life physically, mentally, and emotionally. The Breath Spa provides an online platform to send gift cards or directly purchase products from an array of collections that include sleep, fitness, kids, pets, beauty, mental health, and gardening. Recipients can customize their gifts according to their preferences. In addition, each recipient of a gift card receives a free-breathing technique for sleep, stress, and digestion.
According to recent research, one out of every six Americans is a Caregiver - and this number is only going to increase. Being a caregiver takes a toll on your physical, mental, emotional, relational, and even financial health. Self-Care is vital for caregivers and the people they serve, whether that be an older person, a child with special needs, an individual struggling with anxiety or depression, or someone with health issues; finding a wonderful, impactful gift for both the recipient and the caregiver is why I created The Breath Spa. It brings me great joy and satisfaction to think I may have had a small part in improving the quality of someone else's life.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I could say my biggest accomplishment to date is being recognized by the major media, including ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox News, Yahoo Finance, and The Boston Herald, amongst others. Or having the privilege to speak in front of various large groups across the country regarding the importance of a Self-Care Practice on your overall health. But, to me, the greatest accomplishment is the conversations I have with people or the emails I receive from customers regarding their unique stories of caregiving.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Time or lack of it. When you own your own business, it can be a 24 - 7 commitment. That is why it is important to love what you do and set appropriate boundaries for yourself. To put it in the words of L. R. Knost, "Taking care of myself doesn't mean me first. It means me too."
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Love Yourself. By taking care of your own authentic needs, you are equipped to care for others, including those close to you and the people you serve (your customers). Taking care of yourself will "pay" you back in greater clarity, direction, and goal setting for your business which will lead to greater personal and financial return.
- Love Others. Know your people. Serve your people. Again, greater personal and financial return.
- Be resilient (which comes from practicing Real Self-Care). Life will throw you curve balls. Your business may (and probably will) do the same. You need to learn how to lead a balanced life, so you are better equipped when those curve balls are thrown your way.
