Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dr. BG Mancini, Founder of The Brain & Gut Institute, located in Plantation, FL, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I have been specializing in advancing neurological development in healthy children and neurological recovery in children with challenges. As a licensed Oriental Medicine and Acupuncturist Physician, Functional Medicine Practitioner, and Neurodevelopmental Specialist, I have more than 25 years of hands-on research and experience. I also practice as a primary care provider for children and families. My focus is functional medicine and nervous system resilience working with children, adults, families, and practitioners to identify the root causes of physical, emotional, and neurological challenges. Some techniques to help my patients include Hemispheric integration exercises, Retained reflex integration, Developmental vision, Polyvagal/Vagus nerve/SSP, and strengthening family connections.
I have been entrusted with and enjoy helping thousands of families worldwide increase neurological connections in their children's brains through mobility, nutritional changes, and creating awareness of available techniques to deepen the connection between children and parents. Connecting with each patient and giving them the care they deserve is most important to me. The patients who reach out and are willing to make changes to improve their health deserve my best. At The Brain & Gut Institute, we combine our research, hands-on experience, and tools to integrate neurological and emotional support that lasts a lifetime.
Tell us about yourself
By creating connections through engagement and mobility, our protocols use a child's neuroplasticity through their senses to functionally encourage brain development. Their sensory pathways are responsible for relaying information into the brain to allow it to start making sense of the outside world and integrate its internal awareness. Beyond the five senses we know (sight, sound, smell, hearing, and taste), The Brain & Gut Institute's work uses Proprioception, Interoception, and Vestibular Integration to teach parents how to help their children excel regardless of their starting point. These critical tools help children and adults find more ease and balance in their bodies and brains, leading to families finding more balance.
In my clinical practice and Childhood Essentials™, courses for parents and practitioners, The Brain & Gut Institute conveys how to properly see a child's neurological development from day one through movement and connection. I work with diagnoses such as ADHD, Autism, Sensory Processing Disorder, and more to create a plan of action that allows a child's brain to reach its potential and the family to find greater balance. Findings from Harvard's Center on the Developing Child's research support the techniques I've used for years. This research shows that a foundation for learning begins through connections to those around them. This is integral in creating neural pathways for resilience and further nervous system development. Through my work, parents learn how to step into their nervous systems differently to be more available and present for their children.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I'd say being able to reach and help more families, adults, and children to deepen their connection with themselves and others and reach their health potential. I have enjoyed helping thousands of individuals and families worldwide increase neurological connections in their children's brains through mobility, nutritional changes, and creating awareness of available techniques to deepen the connection between children and parents.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
I would say when it's a business that involves people's health, the hardest thing is being able to give your all, all the time you are working with patients and then practicing what I preach. That means observing healthy eating habits, good sleep hygiene, downtime, exercise, and knowing when I need a break.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Set a goal. You can't get "there" if you don't know where "there" is.
- Keep moving the goal line as you start to see your goals accomplished.
- Celebrate the small wins and when you have completed something that was a challenge, it can't always be a grind if you want to enjoy the process as well.
