Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Nathalie Botros, Founder of The Bon-Vivant Girl, located in New York, NY, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a psychotherapist and author of “If You Are What You Eat, Should I Eat A Skinny Girl?”. I practice as a happiness coach. My multicultural background gives me a unique approach to coaching. My clients are women who struggle with pinpointing what’s missing in their life and who lost their self-love and confidence because of external factors. I help them find happiness on a daily basis regardless of these factors within themselves, so they can move forward living their best lives.
Tell us about yourself
I spent my life searching for happiness in all the wrong places until I realized no partner, job, belongings, or even a perfect body can make you happy if you are not already happy within yourself. When I moved to NY 15-plus years ago, I gained a lot of weight and became a serial dieter. After trying all the diets on the market, I noticed that I was losing more money and joy than weight. So, I decided to stop the insanity and work on myself instead of on my plate. It worked. I started to love myself and my body fiercely and gained back my confidence. I lost weight as well, but most importantly, I gained back my happiness.
My book “If You Are What You Eat, Should I Eat A Skinny Girl?” talks about my process to get there and the beginning of The Bon-Vivant girl. Since the book, I started to create online programs for women who struggle to find happiness because of their body issues or because they are single. I also coach them, and hand to hand, we discover the ingredients missing in their lives for their happiness. Putting a smile on people’s faces is what motivates me every day.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment is to see that I am making an impact on people’s lives, and my Happiness Tips are followed globally by millions of viewers across social media platforms, podcasts, and magazine articles. Every new face with a smile is a win for me!
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
I think the hardest thing is to say no, especially if you are on a mission and want to be heard. You don’t want to refuse opportunities, but it builds up on your plate and can challenge your work-life balance. We cannot be everywhere and do everything, so we need to learn to say no and prioritize.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- “Define your target market.” You cannot serve everyone, your need to know your customer so you know how to serve/help them.
- “Don’t let fear paralyze you.” Fear is worst than failure because if you are scared, you don’t even try. Also, doing something that scares you will boost your self-confidence.
- “Don’t be discouraged if you fail.” I know it bruises the ego, but it is part of the process. Learn a lesson from your failure and modify it to try again.
