Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey by launching a fitness business, but not sure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Andre Roman of Del Mar, CA

What's your business and who are your customers?

I'm an online health and fitness coach. My focus is making health and fitness enjoyable AND understandable for all of my clients regardless of their goals!

Tell us about yourself

My name is Andre Roman, and I am the Founder and President of Andre Roman Fitness.

I am a competitive bodybuilder and lifetime fitness enthusiast with over 30 years of immersive experience in exercise and nutrition who has helped and inspired countless friends, colleagues, and family members develop a life-changing love for fitness throughout the years.

Before devoting my work full-time to my company, I had a full-time corporate career in Talent Acquisition for several Fortune 500 companies. Over two decades of experience as a traditional corporate employee with a hectic work life consisting of daily commutes, meetings, deadlines, overtime, etc., forced me to learn how to successfully balance a demanding career with a rich family/personal life while still leaving time to pursue my passion for health, fitness and bodybuilding.

Regardless of your individual situation or any obstacles that seem to be getting in the way, my experience has enabled me to design an exercise, nutrition, and lifestyle program highly customized for YOU that is manageable, enjoyable, and proven to get results.

I don’t just give you a meal plan and training program to lose weight in 30 days and send you on your way. I take a holistic approach with an eye toward longevity and training your mind in addition to your body in order to achieve true, long-lasting results.

I grew up in Fredericksburg, VA where I enjoyed playing many competitive sports including football, soccer, basketball, rugby, swimming, and baseball. I fell in love with working out during my freshman year training with my teammates on the football team and never looked back.

Fast forward some 30 years later and exercise and fitness continues to play an enormous role in my life. My educational background includes an MBA from The University of Florida in Gainesville, FL and a Bachelor of Liberal Studies in Economics from The University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, VA.

When I’m not working with one of my clients or training myself, I enjoy the beach, trying new recipes (healthy ones and cheat meals too), keeping up with the newest research in the fields of exercise and nutrition, good coffee, and listening to Phish.

Life is good with my fiancée Debbie raising our four-legged fur-baby in Del Mar, California.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

The greatest feeling of accomplishment for me is witnessing one of my clients completely transform their lives.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Keeping on top of the administrative functions such as accounting, marketing, etc. aside from your actual business itself.

What are the top 3 tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Just start and figure it out, don't wait until you think you know everything because you never will!

Always make time for professional development to continue growing as a professional in your chosen field, even when times are busy.

Make sure you LOVE what you do and don't focus as much on the money at first. If you love it and go about it the right way with a consistent approach, you'll do well.

What are some of the things you put in place to maintain a healthy work/life balance?

Morning mediation, setting boundaries, learning to compartmentalize.
