What's your business, and who are your customers?
The Blog Societies is a cultivated community for influencers and bloggers to unlock the resources, connections, and tools necessary to grow their businesses. We offer several membership options to access our perks, like our monthly TBS Academy class, Library of resources, and more. Plus, our blog is full of free helpful content for small creative business owners.
Tell us about yourself
I'm Jessica, and I started my blog, an indigo day, back in 2011. After a few years in the industry, I learned quickly that you need a support group and peers to reach out to for help. The industry was new and ever-changing. The Blog Societies was born through seeing the need for this type of community. New influencers and bloggers are starting out for the first time every single day, and with so much information out there, I want to continue to help those focus on what's important to help them build successful businesses.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I am really proud of the annual conference we have hosted for the last 8 years. These 3-day events are educational, inspiring, and so much fun. We bring in experts in the industry to help us learn how to do things better for our business, brands to connect with, and fellow influencers to learn from.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Knowing where to put more focus. It's tempting to want to do all the things, but you can't physically be everything. Narrowing down the important things that require my attention is what I find to be hardest. What needs to grow, what needs to pivot, that's my biggest struggle at times.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Have a clear focus on what you want to offer and what problem you are solving. If you can't answer it in one to two sentences, you need to refine it. You can't do it all; focus on what is providing the biggest ROI and lean into it. Have systems in place for your business so you can scale or delegate when you need to.
