Increasing Credibility - The Ayodele Web Design Studio

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in web design but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Ayodele Odefunsho, Founder of The Ayodele Web Design Studio, located in Surulere, Lagos, Nigeria.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

The Ayodele Web Design Studio is a website and brand design studio to help coaches, thought-leaders, personal brands, and other service-based businesses succeed more in business through strategic, clean, and user-focused designs. I help build websites that match the dreamy experience your business delivers to your clients, giving your brand a cohesive feel across the board.

Tell us about yourself

From being a 9-5 worker in an eCommerce company, then learning software development while on the job, and finally focusing on building no-code websites for businesses and brands. My journey as a regular 9-5 worker was not satisfying, and with a future that looked bleak and I had a burden that I was not making any impact. However, my job now as a Web Designer alleviates all of that worry because now I know that the websites I build directly impact how their businesses and brands are translated to the world. In trying to find and fulfill my purpose, I quickly discovered that I am helping everyone I work with to fulfill their own purpose as well through their websites. This increased my fire for my job, and I love it even more now with this understanding. It's always an honor to work with passionate individuals and help them amplify their voices and position their businesses to provide solutions for their audiences.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I am excited about the level and quality of work that I provide my clients. Each project rounding off elevated, it's one of the things that delights me the most. And knowing that this largely impacts the success of their business, the opportunities that they start to attract, and much more. The ROI of a well-thought-out, strategic, and beautifully designed website that actually solves problems for a business is unquantifiable. For every completed project, I am truly accomplished.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

There is possibly an endless list of the hardest things that come with being a business owner really. But for me personally, it has ranged from how to stand out in a sea of talented and excellent colleagues in the industry to wondering if you are ever good enough or as good as the others. You have to stay grounded to not get lost in the comparison, the imposter syndrome, and whatever feeling comes from this. Sometimes, it gets lonely; other times, it is just plain difficult. Having to make the tough choices, setting the direction, and being solely responsible for the decisions, not your line manager, not your CFO, or your CEO, you! So you have to brace yourself and take it one step at a time, one decision at a time.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Start, really, just start. You probably will never be 100% ready, and the longer you want, the longer you delay the positive impact your business will have on those you are called to. So you are not only being unfair to yourself but also to the people who need you.
  2. Get at least one person in your corner. Someone who has walked your walk and is doing well and maybe already where you want to be. Their experience might just be the best teacher you need; you skip making the same mistakes they made. Don't be too scared to ask for help where and when you need it.
  3. Don't quit on yourself. Every good thing takes time. You might not have it all figured out at once, but as long as your keep putting in the work in the right ways necessary, you'd be so proud of what you will have at the end of the day.
