Tell us about yourself
A lot of people don’t understand that motivation comes from your why. Why do you get out of bed, and why do you do what you do on a daily basis? For me, I love to see people succeed and achieve their goals and dreams, especially when they think they are not able to do so. I love being able to help people get sober, create companies, and do great things. I love when people call me a year or two later and tell me that they’re still sober and how successful they are. I also like to train and help other people to become successful to offer addiction services like I do.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner was being able to scale my company and hire the best staff that are dedicated to helping other people.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner, of course, is finding clients. I’m in an industry where repeat clients are not what we expect, so unlike if you’re selling shoes or jewelry, you’d want somebody to come back and buy more shoes and jewelry. My main goal is to help somebody get sober and achieve their goals. Once they get well, they do not need our services anymore because they have achieved their goals. This makes it difficult on the business side because you always need to find new clients to help.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- You have to set your intention of exactly what you want and line up how you want it. You do not need a big business plan and a step-by-step roadmap to get there, but you have to have an idea of what you want to do and how much you want to make.
- Let everybody know what you’re doing. A big failure of people starting their own business is that they don’t actually call their existing contacts in their phone list to see if they know anybody that can use their service. You have to let everyone know what you’re doing, and you should be spending as much time as you can, in the beginning, calling everybody in your contact list on your phone. It’s cheap. It’s easy, and it will get you results.
- When negative things happen and downturns arise, weather the storm and keep going. Not every day will be a wind full of money, and not every day will be a lot of fun! Some days you pull your hair out, but you have to get up, dust yourself off and keep going.
