Take Your Business to the Next Level - Tesia Poulos Roberts
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal and business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Tesia Poulos Roberts of Profit & Growth Accelerators, located in St. Augustine, FL, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Profit & Growth Accelerators is a Strategic Business Coaching firm that helps female entrepreneurs create products their clients are excited to pay top dollar for while ensuring their business is set up for healthy growth. Best of all, the owner controls how much or little time she invests in her business.
Tell us about yourself
I've been an entrepreneur since middle school. I started a business selling candy to classmates. So that part of me has always been there. I did, however, take the traditional route, go to college, and work in the corporate workforce for quite some time. I thoroughly enjoyed all of my work experiences. However, I knew I wanted more control over my time after having children. I got tired of asking permission to take my kids to doctor appointments, chaperone field trips at their school, or take time off for myself candidly.
One day, I eventually took the leap of faith, opened the business, and started working for myself. I ultimately opened Profit & Growth Accelerators because, on my entrepreneurial journey, I've met many entrepreneurs and aspiring entrepreneurs that lack the knowledge or guidance for setting up business systems to ensure their company is healthy from a profit standpoint but also set up for growth. Often times entrepreneurs are overworked, overwhelmed, and underpaid. PGA serves to change that, specifically for women, because they make up less than 40% of all entrepreneurs. I absolutely adore the group cohorts we run because they not only serve to build up female businesses by supplying real-world tools for success but also create a safe space for women to connect, collaborate, and elevate each other.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment happens every single time. I am a part of a shift for an entrepreneur. That may sound cheesy, but it's the truth. I love making an impact and having my clients tell me how our work has made a big difference for them. Selfishly, I draw the most gratification from that.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things that come with being a business owner is knowing when and how to let go of the reigns. Delegating specific tasks will free up time and create growth for your business. The challenge is that most entrepreneurs are type A personalities who know they can do the job the best no one can do it better than them. But the shift in your business happens when you recognize the lower-paying task that you can delegate so that you can focus on the parts of your business that generate the highest income.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
The top three tips I'd give anyone looking to start, run or grow a business today would be:
- Get to know your target market very intimately. Spend as much time as you need investigating and researching who your top and most ideal client is. This will ensure that when you are marketing, whether paid or organic, you speak your client's language, and your market wants to hear what you have to say and is interested in what you offer.
- Design a product offering for that ideal client. Solve a problem they need. Don't try to create a problem for them. Listen to your top client. What are they struggling with? What keeps them up at night? What do they want? Then you answer those questions With your offering.
- Set your systems up for scalability early. Even if you want to avoid creating a multi-million dollar company, you want to be able to create an easily repeatable system. Anyone you hire to assist clearly understands what needs to happen for the business to run smoothly. This is the best tip if you want to scale. Still, as I said, even if you're going to keep your company small, at some point, you will eventually want to take a vacation, get sick, or want to take a Saturday off. You want your business to continue.
All three of these tips can be accomplished by someone in any phase of the business process, whether they're a start-up, already running a business, or looking to scale and grow.
