Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Terra Cosby, founder of Terra Cosby Wellness, located in San Diego, CA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
My business is Terra Cosby Wellness. I am a clinical nutritionist that provides nutrition and wellness counseling services to individuals looking to improve their health. Individuals come to me with health-related concerns such as diabetes, autoimmune conditions, digestive disorders, weight concerns, and so much more.
They are usually looking for a way to feel better, reduce medications, improve their quality of life, improve their relationship with food and their bodies, and gain control over their health again. Because every individual is unique, my goal is to help provide them with personalized nutrition and wellness programs based on their specific circumstances, preferences, and lifestyle.
Tell us about yourself
I’ve been working as a clinical nutritionist for over 15 years now, and I love it. I have a bachelor's degree in human nutrition and exercise and wellness, a master's degree in medical nutrition therapy, and post-graduate clinical nutrition training. I was inspired to start my own practice because I wanted to provide better health care to individuals. I recognized that many people are truly overwhelmed by the amount of confusing health-related information out there.
I started my own clinical nutrition practice to educate and empower individuals to take control of their own health and regain and restore their sense of well-being. My hope is to help people gain knowledge and understanding that how you take care of your body affects how you feel physically, mentally, and emotionally. That by creating a healthier relationship with your body, you can move past your diagnosis, take control of your health, and actually feel better.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment is that I had built a successful practice on my own even when it was scary at times.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The hardest thing about being a business owner is that I am responsible for everything, good and bad. There are periods of time when the business can get slow, which can be uncomfortable. However, with that discomfort comes the opportunity for growth and creativity.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- It is better to try, fail, and learn from that failure than not do it.
- Learn to ask for help when needed.
- Believe in yourself and what you are trying to accomplish.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
Building a business takes time and hard work. There can be a lot of failure before success, and that is okay. This failure is how you learn and grow. Be open to the process. Recognize that being scared and uncertain is part of that process, so get comfortable with the uncomfortable feelings that will come up.
