Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Teresa Nieves, Founder of Teresa Nieves Coaching, LLC., located in Newington, CT, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a Holistic Healing Coach who helps women, non-binary, and gender-fluid folx remember how dope they are and to stand back into their light and shine. I use Reiki healing energy along with Life Coaching to support and challenge my clients to question the self-limiting beliefs that are keeping them from living their best life.
Tell us about yourself
It's taken me a long time to be able to know who I am and really like that person. My journey toward the space I am in now started after losing both my parents. The loss challenged everything I knew, and in order to survive, I had to remember my own strength and find joy again. It was tremendously difficult but completely worth the journey. I found Reiki, which I believe was the first step toward my own healing journey, and started working on servicing clients and creating space for them to dream.
What motivates me every day is wanting to be impactful. I want to ensure that no one ever has to feel alone or lost like I was. I want them to know they always have someone in their corner cheering them on. And I want people to love themselves authentically.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I just recently hosted my first retreat, called the Reconnecting Back to You retreat, and it was magical! I set the intention to do this back in April and decided to take a chance and make it happen. I created a workbook, found a beautiful space by the beach, and created a space of safety so my attendees could share, break through the old stories, keep them small, and dream about what could be next. It was not only an accomplishment but also a tremendous moment to show myself this is what I am meant to do.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The hardest thing that I have experienced as a business owner is riding the ups and downs of being an entrepreneur. Being able to believe in yourself through hard seasons or difficult times is tough. You have to really believe in what you have to offer and keep showing up if this work truly matters.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
The top 3 tips I would give are to:
One- remember why you are doing this. Why do you want to run a business? Why do you want to offer these services? Because if you don't know why you are doing this, you won't keep going.
Two- get support. Whether that's through a mentor or a coach, having someone who can hold space for you to process ideas and help you work through blocks is priceless.
Three- have fun with it. The stress of running a business can sometimes take all the joy out of it. You get to decide what the rules are and how this business operates. So don't box yourself into what you think you "should" be doing. Have fun, take a chance, and learn from it.
