Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Tere Zacher, Founder of Performance Edge/Insightful Runner, located in Saratoga, CA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Mindset Coach, Life Coach, and Psychotherapist. I help people become the best version of themselves, overcome their self-imposed limits and beliefs, and the voice in their heads that doesn't allow them to grow, get out of their comfort zone, or don't help them get to their next level.
Tell us about yourself
I became a swimmer at age 24. I was told I did not have the skills or age to be good at it. I refused to believe someone else's definition of what was possible. Two years later, I became the first Mexican to win a swimming world championship. At 44 years old, I became an Olympian in a completely different sport (marathon running). I realized early in my athletic career I was not special; I just refused to believe what others thought was possible. I started working with a sport psychologist that helped me overcome self-doubts and negative thought patterns/beliefs. I realized this is what I wanted to do with my life: Help others become the best version of themselves and live their best life. I love working with people from all areas of life and skill levels (performers, big companies, new companies, athletes, students, teenagers, CEO's, stay-at-home parents...) in achieving true happiness and fulfillment, helping them defy what they thought was possible, and create the life they truly deserve and not what they think they deserve or have settled for.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Being able to help other people doing what I am passionate about. Having the flexibility to work anywhere in the world and being able to set my own schedule, which makes me available for those I get to help.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Getting to establish your 'brand' and putting out there what you do and what you truly stand for. Reaching the right people to help and help you. Getting your name out there and being known/acquiring new and prospective clients.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Believe in yourself and that you can do it. There will be obstacles; use them to propel you forward, not to stop you.
- Remember that what other people tell you you can or cannot do it's only a reflection of their own fears. Do not let them become yours.
- Do what makes you happy because it makes you happy. If you are passionate about it, You will make it!
