Heart-Guided Yoga Therapy - Temple Road Journey
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Angelique Brownlee, Co-Founder of Temple Road Journey, located in Fort Worth, TX, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Our business is bringing Yoga Therapy practices into the caregiving community. We support family caregivers, professional caregivers, and those needing care. We offer a weekly subscription called Heart Guided Practices that give the caregiver an opportunity for a 15-30 minute yoga therapy class to explore during the week. We also offer in-person and virtual yoga therapy classes, Day Retreats, and educational training opportunities.
Tell us about yourself
My journey with yoga therapy began about 20 years ago. It started in an effort to feel more connected in my body and heal past trauma. It has evolved into a rewarding career beyond anything I could have imagined. I have the privilege of working with some of the most amazing people each week. In some cases, I am able to share ancient practices with people who may never otherwise find themselves in a yoga class. We closed our brick-and-mortar studio after nearly eight years to do more outreach with caregivers. I am also a Death Doula and Reiki Master Teacher. I see a need arising for us to prioritize the way we care for ourselves and one another. That is my motivation all day....every day.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Opening a yoga studio, pivoting to an online platform, and providing space for a thriving community of people who truly care.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
In the first decade, I tried to do everything on my own. It was difficult to let go of the reigns and really trust that I could receive help. Wearing so many hats was exhausting. Today, I can proudly say I have learned to say YES! to help! In that willingness, I now see how collaboration is the only way to go and grow.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- If when you talk about your business, you feel joy and excitement rise up in your heart or have a wave of emotion hit you out of nowhere...take that as a big YES from the universe to follow your heart and never give up. No matter how many doors are closed in front of you, keep waking up and putting one foot in front of the other. It will work if you don't quit.
- Ask for help. Find out what you are really good at and go to work to get better at it each day. For the things you aren't naturally gifted to do, search until you find the right team to support your vision.
- Self-care. I know it's a term that gets thrown around a lot these days, but I am not talking only about spa days or going to the gym. I'm talking about a movement and breath practice that puts you in touch with YOU. Heal the past. Forgive. You are so much more powerful than any fear that may be holding you back. When we spend quiet time in self-study, caring for our body and mind, this becomes abundantly clear.
